Experience with using Google marketing tools
Adwords (https://adwords.google.com). I think the target group has to be defined as niche as we could, especially for a tight budget. Setting the key words “web design” for the global market definitely just wastes the money. Here is the instance, a web design & development company like us WPSNET China locates in Shanghai, we target the foreign businessmen in Shanghai, so I set location only in Shanghai (meaning only search actions taking place in Shanghai will possibly display our WPSnet ad campaign, so people in UK or USA will never found our ads on their google site). Also, I set the google interface languages only in English, Spanish, Danish, Swedish etc. in the setting (meaning that only people in Shanghai with a computer of selected language OS installed will access our ads). And then, the keywords could be a bit broad like “web design” “website design” as the previous settings narrow the entrance. Besides, I choose only ads on Google search but not the AdSense places (like the column beside Gmail). It is all about using the tight budget for the right target.
Furthermore, it should set a reasonable daily budget, and also set the highest bid price for per click, which could avoid some too-big clicks (like one click for 20 RMB). In return, we got some calls/emails from those ads, at least they are almost all our ideal target group (and generally we paid for those whom we want).
Google Local Business Center (http://www.google.com/local/add/businessCenter?hl=en-US&gl=US), it is a free tool and normally display at the top of Google search page (in the selected location like Copenhagen). Well, from our website stat. we found a few clicks from that, and it display our position on Google map with the business description. I tried the involved service “Coupon” for “Web design 20% discount”, perhaps you could have a try on that too.
BTW, Google Adwords and Analytics can be tied, so Analytics will display all the organic and CPC clicks in the stat.
